EACH NEW EDITION OF THE BOOM FESTIVAL ARRIVES WITH A BRAND NEW THEME – ONE THAT ANSWERS A MYRIAD OF QUESTIONS UPON WHICH WE HAVE REFLECTED DURING THE YEAR-LONG BREAK. AND WITH THE AIM OF RAISING AWARENESS OF PRESSING CONTEMPORARY ISSUES, WE CAREFULLY EXAMINE THE EVENTS THAT ARE SHAPING THE WORLD AROUND US.
Since the previous (2016) edition of Boom, the world has continued to mutate at an incredible pace. In the social sphere, divisons between people appear to grow; in the technological and environmental sense – there is an ironic disconnect between us, yet a greater need to find inner balance. Meanwhile, there are growing concerns of violent communication in our interactions.
Yet just like with everything – nature always finds a way to bring us the answers we seek. And when mankind surrenders to nature, not only do things fall into place, but we also fulfill our potential as a species.
Nature in its magnitude represents a dimension that can be challenging to understand. When we think about it – it is in fact quite orderly – but only if we can learn to simply observe the plant world and recognise it in all its mathematical glory.
So how can we really evolve and move onto becoming better beings? Meditating on Sacred Geometry is one way of finding the answers we seek – and this is why it has become the theme of the 2018 edition of Boom.
In the parable, the Allegory of the Cave, Plato symbolically describes the nature of reality and the predicatable scenario in which mankind finds itself to be.
His theory of ‘forms’ explains that our perception of the physical reality is made up of ‘ideas’ which reflect what we ‘think’ a physical object might be. How do we know a cushion is a cushion? How do we know that what we see is nothing more than a shadow of the truth and that we must go outside of the so-called ‘cave’ to seek it?
Plato and protagonists of various ancient cultures were very aware that some of the secrets to the universe lay in mathematics, in geometrical signatures, in numerical frequencies instrumental to creating universal harmony.
So in simple shapes like circles, triangles, pentagons and spirals – we find the structure and growth of plants, whether it’s a blade of glass, a shell, a leaf or a flower petal. These can be understood through the knowledge that numbers build upon themselves in balanced, cyclical, self-referential rhythms like a Fibonacci Sequence.
The understanding that there are constants and patterns in nature, in all forms of life, generates a sense of oneness and interconnectedness. It forms the basis for us as a species to positively surpass that this is one of our most critical moments.
The study of Sacred Numbers, Golden Ratio and Phi leads us to the creation of the Source of Life. Experiencing mandalas, the sacred architecture of the pyramids and spiritual buildings, inspires us to honour the infinite through art with no attachment.
Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man with the proportions of (wo)mankind is an exhortation to the divine nature of wo/man. Reflecting on the construct of a fruit or the Flower of Life leads us to access higher dimensions and worlds.
And if Plato was one of the thinkers that systematised the optics of looking at reality with a deeper meaning, then the Platonic Solids are the beauty and symmetry of the universe materialised.
Patterns found in the nautilus, in shells, in crop circles and in the helix of DNA all honour Nature and the sense that there is a visual expression of the connections of life that run through all sentient beings.
Sacred Geometry is a reality that we all share – shapes, patterns and proportions that we can all see and feel in nature, in our daily lives and in ourselves. We are constantly in touch with this cosmic architecture that connects all forms of life together.
It shows us that we come from One source of life. Our potential for positive evolution relies on our capacity to acknowledge this powerful bond between everyone and everything.
Boomers, you are all welcome to honour the interconnectedness that exists between all forms of life, and in all its manifestations – spiritually, physically, through art, music, architecture, in plants and in living beings.
May the Love of Life Shine on in You.
